Tiritiri Matangi - Light houses

This week we are focusing on light houses in New Zealand. Our group leader decided to choose Tiritiri Matangi. I think that our group works really well together because we can communicate about things and what we should do to help out with the work. We found an interesting fact about our light house, the light house was made out of cast iron and cast iron is made for making frying pans. We did as much as work as we could to finish this task. There are twenty three light houses in New Zealand and seventy six lights, that's a fact.

Calligrams

Today for week 9, term 2 we were learning about calligrams. As I was researching I found out that the words have to relate to the image that you are finding out. The words that we chose to do was ice, tennis ball and music. I think that this activity was fun to do because making words out of images are great.

M&M's

Today we did a DLO about M&M's. The thing why we did this activity was to find out why the company invented M&M's. I think as a group that I worked with was great because we worked collaboratively and worked hard to finish this DLO. I knew that we were going to finish it because we were all focused on one thing and listened to the instruction that we had to do. A interesting fact that we found out was according to the Mars company they originally put the M&M's in different orders and all of the colors or chocolate aren't the same. In 1941 they created M&M's.

Tech Reflection

Today at tech we were baking chocolate muffins. As we were following the instructions we placed our mixture of ingredients on the cooking bench. The smell of the chocolate muffins was delicious. We put the timer to 15 minutes. When the timer beeped that meant that the muffins were cooked. The muffins were nice and brown. The muffins were perfect because they weren't burnt. My partner and I worked collaboratively because I worked on putting the ingredients together and mixing them. My partner worked on putting the chocolate in the muffin tray and putting the oven temperature to 150 degrees. Food tech is great to go to and fun with Ms Tuipulotu. If I was to bake muffins again I wouldn't change a thing because I cooked it just right.

Passengers Seats

Today for Maths we were solving question about Passengers Seats. This learning was a bit easy because we worked collaboratively. To find the answer we needed to know who is sitting on the window side. For this activity I worked with my partners Miki and Carl.

HIIT

This week for HIIT training we are learning how to do a push up, pull up and a squat. We were put into groups to do this exercise. We were put into groups of six. Our partners were the encourages to keep us going. We had a limited time to do this exercise and to keep rotating every time. The main thing why we were doing this exercise was to see how strong we are to do things. There were three sets to do this exercise. As it came to a point where it nearly finished we kept trying our hardest to do more and more.

Kiwi Sport reflection

Today at kiwi sport our instructor Haymish put us into groups of seven. There were three groups. The first game that we played was kind of like bull rush but ripping off the tags. The highest points that we got up to was three points. We all challenged each other to see who would win at the game. The second game that we played was ripparugby. We were all in colored groups. The first group that we played against was blue team. We won the first game because we knew where to pass it to and who to give to. We all had fun because we participated in the kiwi sport. What I learnt from Kiwi sport was teamwork and communicating. We learnt how to share the ball and the skills that we do.

Tech Reflection

Today at food tech we were baking Quiches. The recipe was simple to do because it was already written on the board. My partner and I worked really well today because we were communicating with each other sorting the things that we should do. The things that I did was dicing the ham into small little cubes to put on the pastry. The second thing that we did was to place the cheese on top of the ham. The third thing that I done was pouring a half cup of milk into the silver measuring bowl and adding four eggs. After whisking the eggs and the milk we poured it into a measuring jug to pour it on the pastry. The cheese was added on the pastry so the texture and mixture can combine. When the pastry is finished getting poured with the milk and egg we had to top up some of the quiches. We put the oven on for 250 degrees and cook it for ten minutes. When the quiches were done baking in the oven the smell of the quiches were amazing. As we tasted the quiches we were proud of what we did because we put a lot of effort in this cooking. I really like cooking with Ms Tuipulotu and attending to her tech.

Kiwi Can Reflection

This term our topic for Kiwi Can is Integrity and our theme is Accountability. Integrity means to be honest for doing something when no one is looking. Accountability means to be responsible for the actions you do. It also means to  take ownership for the things that you have done wrong. Our energizer was to get as many cards as possible before the other team takes it. Our activity was to make two truths about what you actually did and one lie that you didn't do. It was a hard game to play because most of the questions looked like they were the truth.  Before we finished Kiwi Can we went straight into the general knowledge questions. Kiwi Can learns more and more new things that Panmure Bridge school shows and what they have learnt to achieve this goal. It was great to attend at Kiwi Can.

HIIT Training

This term we are focusing on doing a fitness class. The students that got chosen last term were focusing on how to do a split squat. Through out the week we were learning how do split squat pulse, split squat, star jumps, and star planks. Last fitness class we were looking at squats, and squat jump. It is difficult to do a split squat pulse and jump because the muscles you pull. I couldn't keep up with the fitness because I wasted a lot of energy pushing and pushing. I tried my best every time we attended at HIIT training.

Fractions

This game was great because the fractions were kind of easy on level 1. I found this game awesome because I can learn my fractions easier. This game made me think more about fractions and now I know the hard fractions. I reached up to level 8. Level 8 was kind of hard because the numbers were difficult to answer.

Number knowledge

Today for maths we were learning how to divide numbers. It was difficult because there were to many fractions to solve. Fractions are kind of hard for me but the hardest thing that I'm not use too is my twelve times table. Today I chose to work collaboratively by myself because I want to see if I am good. I thought that I need to work with my partner so we both can work it together.

Fraction of an Amount

Today this problem solving DLO shows the fractions that I have learnt. The Learning intention was to find fractions of an amount in word problems. This question that I have been working on was kind of difficult because I didn't know if you had to subtract the numbers or add the numbers. I worked by myself because the teachers want to know how I would find the answer to this fraction solving and if I know my fractions by dividing them. This wasn't the only question that was difficult because I got some of the questions incorrect.

Student Led Conference Script

At student led conference interview my mum (Karen) was looking at my learning. She was proud because how the work that I have done. She was amazed about the work I have been presenting and the amazing feedback my teachers have commented about me. I knew that she would be proud of me because the math I like to be challenged my hard thinking. I showed her that the script that I have done.

Kiwi Sport Reflection

At Kiwi Sport our instructor Haymish showed us what is a step spin. Haymish put us into numbers and groups. The girls in my group didn't know how to do the step spin so Haymish showed them how to do it. We played a game against the other groups and we won the first game. As we played the second game we won it again. The team that we played with first round had zero points and we scored over ten points. The second game that we played with had three points and we had five points. It was a tough game between the other teams. The main point of the game is communicating and teamwork. My team were great at doing all that. The thing I like about Kiwi Sport is the fun games that we play and how I learn new abilities to play rippa rugby.

Assembly Presenting

Today I presented at our school Assembly. When I presented at the assembly I felt nervous and felt I was going muddle the words. When I stood in front of the podium I was confident to present but as I looked up there was a huge audience looking at me. I then felt nervous again. As the leaders presented I knew that I could present well too. As the school leaders finished presenting, our principal spoke to us and gave out certificates to the people who deserved them. When we stood in silence to sing the national anthem I knew that everything was done. I was proud of myself because I actually spoke in front of a huge audience presenting in front of them.

Kiwi Can Reflection

Our topic for Kiwi Can was integrity and the theme for it is called role models. At Kiwi Can our first thing that we played was called don't let the ball go into your legs. The game was challenging because we played with two balls and we didn't know who's leg it would go into. There were a lot of people that had won the first energizer. As we played the second time the circle had got smaller and smaller until I lost. Ms Lily and Mr Matt put us into groups of six to play a game but to play this game you would have to just do the actions and no talking. Ms Lily were giving us characters to act like and the players are the only people that answer. The main point to win the game is to answer fast and guess the fastest. As we moved on to the third activity the instructions were to freeze and if you are the slowest you are out. The game was called statue. The game was all about role models and how they act or what they do for a living. It was a fun game to play. Kiwi Can is fun to go to because we play the fun activities.

Cooking tech

Today at tech we are baking muffins. The recipe wasn't simple because there were too many steps to follow but we still participated. The thing I like going to tech is learning new things and creating new things. I like cooking with Ms Tuipulotu because she is funny and she teaches us to cook and what to do if we do something wrong. Baking muffins is kind of hard because you have to make sure that it wasn't burnt. That was probably the hardest because you have to keep an eye on it to make sure that it isn't hard or soft.

Cinema Attending Argument - Math

For this week I have created my second activity for the week. For this learning we were learning how to make an argument, "Why young people are likely to go to the cinema." This DLO shows how younger people are more likely to go to the cinema more than older aged people. As people go into the age of an adult they don't want to go to the cinema because they would rather stay home and be a normal person. They would rest at home or they'd be busy.

Amount of the children

Today for math we were learning how to work out how many children in the classroom. The problem was to use fractions. We had to find out what age they were in and calculate it all together to find out the students in the classroom. It was difficult to actually find the answer but we still figured it out. The question had confused me because how many students that were over eight years old. Instead we showed you in steps to find the answer and how we worked it out together. The last question shows how many children that we found for our answer.

Skeletal System Game

Today for inquiry we started our fist session of our new rotation. This inquiry topic is about the human body systems. We played a game about the skeletal system which is the bones that help support our body and protect our organs. There were 2 modes. The first one was about reassembling the bones in our body and putting them in the correct place. The second one was about labeling all the different bones in the human body. This is the image of the score I got from this game.

6 Ballad Hats

San Kyaw, Affonso and I used our smart searching skills to find the types of jobs that women and men in New Zealand this in the 1870's. We noticed that the jobs people did back then were a lot more physical than many of the jobs we do today because they didn't have the technology we do to help them.

Tech Reflection

Today at tech we were going to bake pancakes. The instructions were already written on the board. The ingredients were simple because all the equipment were pretty much set up for us to be prepared. The thing that was difficult about cooking was to make sure that the mixture of ingredients aren't t soft or hard it's suppose to be just right so it can make round. We all had a go at trying our best to make round circles but it turned out to be wobbly. What I found really difficult was  that my mixture was to watery and the thing why it turned out wrong is because I was whisking it to long. What I found tasteful was the Hershey's syrup on the pancake. It was great at tech with Ms Tupulatu.
